Keep this in mind when bringing your dog in your camper

It's wonderful to be able to take your best friend on holiday, especially holidays in a motorhome. Although it's very convenient to take your dog with you in your motorhome, there are some things that are good to consider to make sure your dog has the best experience possible.

Is the dog welcome?

It's a good idea to check out dog-friendly sites in advance. There are many places where dogs are welcome, but it's obviously safest to make sure that campsites, beaches and restaurants all welcome your best friend. You can easily check it out on various dog-friendly services like tamedhunden.se.

Transporting your dog

  • You need to transport your dog safely. There are certain rules and laws to abide by when your dog is in the campervan.

  • Your dog must be secured either in a carrier or with a seat belt.

  • If your dog is transported in a cage, it must be placed in such a way that the dog has shade and good ventilation.

  • Equipment, luggage or other objects should not be able to fall on the dog and damage it.

  • The space the dog occupies during the journey should allow them to stand up and lie down comfortably.

  • Remember that there should be a good chance of rescuing your dog in the event of an accident.

  • Rest the dog and give it water at least every 6 hours.

Never leave your dog in a hot camper

You should never leave a dog unattended in a car if there is a possibility of the temperature rising above +25 or below -5 degrees. A campervan gets hot quickly and rules state that dogs can only be left in a stationary car for a maximum of three hours. So plan your trip well in advance.

Tied dog

Never tie your dog up in the motorhome when you are parked. Every year there are reports of dogs still tied up when the owner has driven away.

In case of accident

No matter where you are going or how long you will be away, accidents can happen or your dog may be injured. It's always a good idea to take a first aid kit for your dog. You may be a long way from the nearest veterinary clinic and a first aid kit can help you a long way down the road. Here are some things that might be useful to have with you:

  • Protective gloves

  • Saline solution/wound wash

  • Self-adhesive dressings

  • Compress

  • Fluid replacement

  • A razor and tweezers

A dog-friendly holiday is definitely the best. Make sure you put yourself in your dog's shoes and plan your holiday with all the travellers in mind. There's nothing better than celebrating the holiday with your loved one!
