Acute vomiting in cats

If your cat vomits every day or several times a day, you should always consult a vet, as there are many serious reasons for frequent vomiting. These can range from a gastrointestinal disorder to other internal problems and illnesses. Vomiting can be a symptom of many different illnesses and needs to be diagnosed by a vet. Only after diagnosis can the cat receive the necessary treatment.

If your cat won't eat, or can't keep food or water down, it is especially important to seek help right away. Cats are very sensitive to starvation and are at risk of dehydration if they are not allowed to retain food or water. A cat needs about 50-60 ml of fluid per kilogram of body weight per day. However, if the cat has fluid loss in the form of vomiting and/or diarrhoea, the need can double!
