Dog-Friendly gingerbread cookies
Traditional gingerbread contains spices that can upset a dog’s stomach, so it’s not something dogs should eat. But that doesn’t mean your dog has to miss out on the Christmas treats.
To help your dog join in the festive cheer, here are two simple, dog-friendly gingerbread-style cookie recipes—one hard and crunchy, one soft.
Hard Gingerbread Cookies for Dogs
Ingredients
7.5 dl wholemeal flour
2.5 dl oatmeal
2.5 dl wheat germ
0.5 dl cooking oil
2.5 dl grated cheese
3 dl meat broth (unsalted, onion-free)
Instructions
Heat the broth and mix it with the oatmeal and oil. Let it stand for 5 minutes.
Add the wheat germ and grated cheese. Mix well.
Add the flour a little at a time and work into a firm dough.
Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thickness and cut out shapes using cookie cutters or a glass.
Bake at 175°C for about 50 minutes.
Turn off the oven and leave the biscuits inside overnight to dry and harden completely.
Store in a dry, well-ventilated container.
Soft Gingerbread Cookies for Dogs
Ingredients
1 grated carrot or apple
5 dl buckwheat flour
1 dl peanut butter (xylitol-free)
~2 dl water
Instructions
Grate the carrot or apple.
Mix all ingredients together, adding water gradually until you get a soft dough.
Roll out the dough and cut out cookies using cookie cutters.
Serve fresh or store in the fridge for a few days.
