Teach your dog lie down on a cue
The behaviour of lying down is useful in many different situations. Here, dog trainer Lina Lundin shows you how to start teaching your dog to lie down. Dogs listen better to our body language than to our verbal cues, so we start the training by showing the dog "down" with an arm movement. Then, when you want to add a verbal signal, it's important to remember that the verbal signal should come before the arm movement. Then slowly reduce your arm movement until the dog lies down on your verbal signal.
To get a dog to stay down, you can directly apply a release signal - in the video, the trainer says "Here you go". You can then develop the time your dog should be down before it is allowed to break the position.
