Make your own rehydration solution for your dog

During the warmer months, we enjoy more outdoor activities together in the heat. This can lead to dehydration. It's helpful to have a rehydration solution at home, and we'll give you tips on how to make your own.

Rehydration solution recipe for your dog

• 1 litre of water

• 1 tablespoon dextrose or honey

• 1 teaspoon salt

Do like this:Mix together and offer to your dog.

Dosage:50 ml of liquid per kilo of body weight per day. To calculate the amount per hour: Dog's weight (kg) x 50 ml / 24.

If your dog is severely dehydrated, they may need double this amount.

When should you contact a vet?

Contact a vet if your dog shows any of these symptoms:

• Your dog vomits even small amounts of water

• Your dog is very young or elderly

• Blood in vomit or diarrhoea

• Recurring vomiting and diarrhoea
