Dog sleep
Dogs, our loyal companions, need plenty of sleep just like cats. How much they sleep depends on their age and other individual factors. Here, we'll explore how dog sleep changes as they grow.
How much sleep do dogs need each day?
Puppies:
Newborn puppies sleep for up to 22 hours a day. As they get older, they sleep less because they want to explore their surroundings. Until they're about 4 months old, it's important they still get around 20 hours of sleep to grow and thrive.Adolescent Dogs:
Young dogs between 4 months and 2 years old need 16 to 20 hours of sleep. They're very playful and growing fast during this time, so sleep is extra important.Adult Dogs:
Adult dogs sleep for around 14 to 18 hours a day. If they've had extra playtime or exercise, they might need even more sleep to recover.Senior Dogs:
Older dogs start sleeping more again, much like when they were young. They might need up to 20 hours of sleep to feel their best.
Sleep is vital for dogs to grow and feel their best, both physically and mentally. It's important not to disturb them and to let them sleep peacefully.
Try to spend time with your dog, playing during the day and relaxing together before bedtime. This helps them establish and maintain healthy sleep patterns, adjusted for their age.
Get into the habit of spending time with your dog during the day and shortly before bedtime to fulfill their needs for activity and attention. By paying attention to age-specific requirements, you contribute to your four-legged friend developing a healthy and balanced sleep pattern.
